At least six Philadelphia police officers were shot during a wild standoff in the city’s North Side Wednesday, according to various reports.
Police told 6ABC News that at least five of the officers were rushed to Temple University Hospital. It is not known if their injuries are life-threatening.
FOX 29 tweeted that witnesses reported more than 100 rounds fired before police arrived, and said at least one officer was shot in the head.
Dozens of police officers swarmed the residential neighborhood around 4:30 p.m. and closed off surrounding streets, with video from news choppers showing officers crouching behind cars during a wild shootout, NBC 10 News is reporting.
Shortly before 5 p.m., Philadelphia Police Sgt. Eric Gripp wrote on Twitter that the news choppers were “hindering operations” and should pull back. He said the shooting was in the 3700 block of North 15th Street and urged residents to avoid the area.
